The announcement from the Department of Health on 7th March 2006 regarding introduction of new work-permit system was a big shock for over 20,000 doctors from non-EU countries. The Permit Free Training was abolished without any warning or consultation. This has created an atmosphere of doom and gloom amongst the International Medical Graduates as it has lead to great uncertainty about their careers in UK. Since the jobs will be offered on the basis of nationality rather than merit there is feeling of dismay amongst all the medical fraternity in the UK. The worst affected are the Post PLAB Unemployed Doctors. To express the feelings of the profession and to convey to the British public the unfair and unjust policy of the Department of Health, BAPIO has planned a peaceful demonstration in front of Richmond House, the seat of Department of Health.
